JOHN 17:1-16
Jesus knew the struggle the righteous ones face in this fallen world. His compassion for His sheep compelled Him to equip us for the fight to defend ourselves. At the same time, He equipped us to go out into the world and carry the good fight to others. Having equipped us, He prayed for us.
He gave us the Words of life
Truth is a constant. Even awash in this relativistic world, truth simply is. Because it is unchanging, our options are limited when we encounter trouble. No matter the circumstance, righteousness is the solution God intends us to choose. “What did Jesus teach?” should go hand-in-hand with “WWJD?” Jesus prayed that we would live our lives in His truth.
There is power in unity
You are not alone. We are in this thing together. Even better, we are in this together with God and God is in this together with us. Best of all … He is in us! In this we rejoice, because we have been set apart by God to be the voice of truth in the world. Jesus prayed that we would not be overcome by the world in the process.
Division is contrary to God’s truth
In Christ Jesus, all of the things that separate us are to be cast away. Unity is proof that we are “of God”. Divisive “Christians” are actively living contrary to truth. The religious culture in the US has folks convinced that “sheep stealing” is “church growth” and personal preferences in worship override simple truth. Jesus prayed that we would seek out “new” sheep and submit to His truth.
