LUKE 10:1-42
When we accept that our joy is produced because our names are written in the Lamb’s book of life, then we are relieved of the burden of trying to earn salvation. As Paul says in Ephesians 2, we are saved by grace through faith SO THAT we can carry out the work God has prepared for us. Set free, we now experience joy in the work that we do.
Find joy in seeking the lost
The 70 went out on a “limited” commission and were amazed at what God did through them. Wondrous deeds they could not possibly do by their own power. Why then do we hesitate to go out on the “great” commission for fear that we are not capable? Expect great things from God and you will find joy – not reluctance – in the doing.
Find joy in helping others
Hear me out … sometimes we spend valuable time praying for an opportunity and we miss the ones right in front of us. This parable portrays men sincerely doing “God things”, but missing the weightier things of the Law. Needy folks are everywhere. Just pick one. Then you will find joy in the doing.
Find joy at the feet of Jesus
All work and no play not only makes Jack a dull boy, it keeps Jack from time spend in quiet devotion. We scurry about getting busier and busier, but find ourselves farther away from God. “One day…” we lie to ourselves. We simply cannot work enough to manufacture joy. Make time for Jesus, and you will find joy in the doing!
