PSALM 2:1-12
The reign of God – His kingdom – is not a matter of territory, but of hearts. In His Messiah, the LORD God Almighty promised to establish His kingdom that would begin on earth (time) and continue into heaven (eternity). How is this even possible? Because it is a spiritual kingdom, not a physical one.
Serve in fear and rejoice with trembling
Have you even wondered why folks who “know” that God is a myth and Jesus is a fable spend an inordinate amount of time and energy attacking them? Why DO the nations rage against the LORD and His Anointed (Messiah)? Because they simply want to keep us in bondage to the world they rule.
Messiah is a liberator
The attempts to hold humanity captive are ultimately futile, since this world is temporary. All people are immortal spirits inhabiting mortal bodies for a few years on earth. His kingdom on earth liberates us from the bondage of sin and His kingdom in heaven liberates us from the bondage of flesh. God’s will has been done and the kingdom has come.
Jesus is Lord
As was always the divine plan, all authority on earth and in heaven has been given to Jesus, the Messiah. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. The nations rage because they wish to resist His authority and rule themselves as well as others. We rejoice because even though we willingly submit to their decrees, we have been forever liberated by the Anointed One of God.
Seek to be free from God OR free in Christ
The psalmist gives fair warning to all. Bow the knee voluntarily here or bow it in hopelessness hereafter. “Kiss the Son!” The way of freedom is the way of wisdom, service and reverence. The kingdom of Messiah is a place of quiet refuge from the rage all around us.
