ISAIAH 61:1-11
In this prophecy, the Holy Spirit moves Isaiah to proclaim the promise of everlasting joy in the coming Messiah, Jesus. Centuries later, as His public appearance in Israel dawns, Jesus reads this very passage in His synagogue and declares it “fulfilled in your presence”. Did it bring joy? Well, the folks of His hometown chased Him away.
Joy is on God’s terms
No doubt about it, our world system is unjust. Many look to “the supreme being” to simply fix the world system as proof “it” exists. Instead, the true and living God proclaims His LOVE for justice and then displays it in Jesus. The “good news” is not a plan to fix the world, rather it is to redeem guilty mankind with a divine justice that overcomes the world.
Comfort and gladness in the joy of salvation
With a kingdom NOT of this world, King Jesus and His subjects are free to reveal the Way, the Truth and the Life in being set apart from this world. A recognition that the wages of my sin is death can only be overcome by the LORD who loves true, divine justice. Spiritual riches to the poor, spiritual healing to the wounded and spiritual liberty to the slaves of sin is the promise of Isaiah and the fulfillment of Jesus.
Joy on God’s terms is everlasting
The words of Isaiah were rejected by the system of his day, but a remnant listened. The words of Jesus were rejected by the system of His day, but a mustard seed believed. Preserved for all to hear, these same words ring out to you … for you to choose. Jesus never offered to fix the world, in justice He offers to redeem you.
