REVELATION 19:1-21

The imagery and apocalyptic language of the book of Revelation “clutters” things a bit, but try to unclutter for a few moments and soak in the picture we are given of Jesus, the Lamb of God. In your meditation, recall the powerful message of Psalm 97 and the rejoicing because “the LORD reigns”…

There is great rejoicing in the spiritual realm because the Lamb of God – Jesus, the Christ (Messiah) – is victorious over “the Beast” and the “Great Prostitute” who were the enemies of the church. Cries of “Hallelujah!” echo in shouts of joyous celebration praising the power of God and His wondrous glory. As His children, we rejoice because His judgments are just and righteous.

Sounding the same eternal truth found in Psalm 97 (and elsewhere, of course), heaven resounds with the cry “the Lord our God the Almighty reigns”. I don’t know about you, but chill run up my spine. A “chill” of joy, perhaps? What else can we do but “rejoice and be glad”?

Why? What unfolds here is crucial to our understanding of the plan of God for our salvation. Simply put, the story of the victory of Jesus cannot be told without telling of His bride, the church. Indeed, we – the saints of God – are clothed in the pure, clean garment of grace. Here is our joy.

Now things get interesting…

A white horse appears, and we “see” Jesus in a way He has never before revealed Himself. The Lamb of God is a Mighty Warrior King! Wait, a “king”? I thought “the Lord our God the Almighty” was the One who reigns…the unmistakable reality of this revelation is that Jesus, the Messiah IS the Lord God Almighty!

He is God, the Word of God (John 1:1-4) whose very words both spoke the universe into existence (Genesis 1) and provide the standard by which all people will be judged (John 12:48). His words are “Faithful and True” and His judgment is righteous. His word is a shape two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12-16) and separates friend from foe, redeemed from lost and life from death.

The Lamb reigns … The Lord reigns. If BOTH are true then this is truly profound. We were told of a king who would come and establish an eternal kingdom. On His thigh is written the glorious truth the Jesus is unlike any other king. Jesus is King of kings.

The sword of His mouth slashes forth. Will it strike fear? Will it strike joy? Your feelings are not your judge. Your intentions are not your judge. Your good deeds are not your judge. The Word of God is your judge.

In sin there is fear …

in grace, there is JOY.
