“Sensing The Power of God” – MARK 4:26-29

Rightly so, we study the Word for instruction in the things that we should do. Often times, we need to cast away actions and attitudes, or even alter our life goals to bring our lives into harmony with the will of God. Other times we may need to begin doing new (to us at least) things in the name of Christ in order to live out His compassionate righteousness. Both are good and each is necessary in the refining process of our life in Christ.

We need to never be satisfied and always hunger for our Savior.

So is it up to us? Yes, well … no.

Christians need to bow to the will of God for our lives and be transformed by Him (Romans 12:1-2). Using the parable of the seed, Jesus expresses this awesome truth in rather clear and simple terms. For seed to grow, it obviously needs to be planted (our work, not our seed). There comes a point when the real work begins and it is out of our hands. The seed grows by the power of God. We have work of preparation and participation, but we need to sense the power of God doing the truly amazing work in our lives.

Never forget, He does what I cannot possibly do.

When I was in the construction business, we often encountered a home gutted by fire and damaged by smoke. After several months, the home would be turned over to its owners in a restored condition. Our goal was always to make it better than it was before, and more often than not we were successful. When the “thanks” were offered, we would gladly take credit … we had done the work.

For the Christian it is quite different.

The restoration work of God is His doing, not ours. He grows us and bears fruit through us. When others notice, we are compelled to give honor to the God who worked His power in us…if we are truly grateful to Him.

Take time to stand in awe of God. Take time to stand amazed in His presence. Allow Him to do His restorative work … then, give God ALL of the glory for the person you become.
