COLOSSIANS 1:1-29

Paul’s prayer for the church is that the saints be strengthened by God. The power that strengthens us produces endurance and patience (1:11-12) and the joy of the Lord in us. The work of grace is accomplished FOR us, so Paul prays that the work of grace prospers IN us.

We walk in a worthy manner to please God

The separation and alienation resulting from sin are overcome by the blood of the cross. Now, in Christ, we are reconciled to God. Now we can back-fill our minds with the knowledge and wisdom of God. Obedience to His truth produces a vast harvest of fruit. When the work of grace prospers IN us, joy flows out from us.

We bear fruit to be pleasing to God

The supremacy of Jesus is a function of His divinity. The preeminence of Jesus is a function of faith. He is who He is. He has accomplished the reconciliation and made peace by the blood He shed on the cross. When the work of grace prospers IN us, the Master can work through us.

Be reconciled. Be thankful. Be filled with understanding. Rejoice.
